First Fruits Sunday School

Shennon's Fruitfull Thoughts

Shennon

Sunday School at Valley of Peacehas been part of our lives for several years.  My daughter will be starting her 6th year attending and my son his 4th year.  I began substitute teaching in the preschool classes, and eventually became a rotation teacher for the last few years.  The rotation system, while great for the student's learning, is truly awesome for the teachers.  In the 3 week commitment of teaching a rotation, I was able to work with nearly every kid in the program.  Anyone that needs a reminder of why our God is so great should spend an hour with our Sunday School kids.  They are truly some of God's great works.  Each Sunday they show me something new, surprising or awe inspiring in them.

Reflecting on the 2008-2009 year there have been some pretty great successes.  For example we tried having our 6th graders take on a new role as Shepherds in the program.  They frequently showed us what great leaders the church has in our young people.  Preparing for next year as director, I love to hear how parents and kids are feeling about the program.  Ideas, thoughts and suggestions from our kids and parents are really important so please share them with me.

This picture is of another time I was enjoying God’s awe inspiring works.  When you hike to the top of this mountain in Mexico, you can see where the Monarch butterfly population spends the winter.  There are six butterflies in this picture with me.  But more than you could ever count are near the top.  The path to see them is not always easy, and sometimes you wonder if it is worth the climb.  Especially when so many pretty ones can be seen along the way.  But as we climbed people who had been to the top, stopped their decent to encourage us and tell us it really was worth it.  It occurs to me this was not unlike the path our children follow growing up in Christ.  The climb can be hard at times.  The adults in their lives encouraging them often make all the difference.

May God help us all to encourage someone else.
